I used to go to a restaurant in Portland that was owned by a couple of—rather grim—sisters, who believed in health food and served things like whole grain bread and steamed vegetables without salt.
Hi there, can you please share this recipe, also? Both for the mushroom soup and the bean broth? (I am serious. Please.) I think maybe you need a cookbook can Empress get on that?
When I was growing up in Dunedin, New Zealand, there were numerous odd tidelines of humanity settled there from places like China, Scotland, Lebanon, Cambodia, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Austria and Hungary. My favourite restaurant was The Budapest Cafe, where I always ordered the goulash and the mushroom soup. It sounds like the exact same soup. Boy, what a deliciously visceral memory.
