Amazing piece, as always, Anna. This captures a psychedelic day better than anything I've read in a very long time. Such an unexpected, fun story. I found myself both queasy and laughing in the final section. Great stuff.

I like how you describe the high. And it makes me curious. I have never done drugs other than marihuana. I wonder, if you feel so clear headed, don’t you want to just keep taking it?

I have a friend who’s married with a psychiatrist who is an expert in the uses of psychedelics for depression (like, truly depressed people who cannot function) and I just wonder about these things, how come the brain is fogged and these drugs help clearing it up. And then I wonder also constantly about this episode called 9volt nirvana from a radio program called radiolab and I just keep wondering how it would feel to zap my brain to feel clear and light. Sorry for this essay, you don’t have to answer my intrusive questions, I was just voicing some recurring thoughts.

It's just that the psychedelics in large quantity are so bad for you! And coming down off of them is a feat only to be managed by the young. Even then it can take a whole day or even longer and the withdrawal can be pretty brutal. So the idea of taking them regularly was never appealing. 9 volt shock huh? Sounds scary!

Okay, now I am high as balls on two rattlesnakes, an old whack job with a gun and a possibly cancerous protrusion that turns out to be a piece of glass and some pus. Is there anything that can't be turned into a story?
